Market capitalization of four out of top 10 Sensex companies increased by Rs 2.18 lakh crore

New Delhi. The market capitalization (market cap) of four of the top 10 most valuable Sensex companies collectively increased by Rs 2.18 lakh crore last week. The biggest beneficiaries were Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and State Bank of India (SBI). Among the top 10 companies, the market capitalization of Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), LIC and SBI increased. The market valuation of these companies collectively increased by Rs 2,18,598.29 crore. On the other hand, the market valuation of HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and ITC collectively declined by Rs 1,06,631.39 crore.
Last week, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell 490.14 points or 0.67 per cent. The market valuation of LIC increased by Rs 86,146.47 crore to Rs 6,83,637.38 crore in the week under review. LIC shares on Monday reached the Rs 1,000 mark for the first time with a gain of almost six per cent. During this period, the market value of SBI increased by Rs 65,908.26 crore to Rs 6,46,365.02 crore. The market valuation of TCS surged by Rs 61,435.47 crore to Rs 15,12,743.31 crore and that of Reliance Industries surged by Rs 5,108.09 crore to reach Rs 19,77,136.54 crore.
TCS shares jumped four percent on Tuesday, taking its market valuation beyond Rs 15 lakh crore. Contrary to this trend, the market capitalization of HDFC Bank declined by Rs 32,963.94 crore to Rs 10,65,808.71 crore. ITC’s valuation declined by Rs 30,698.62 crore to Rs 5,18,632.02 crore. Bharti Airtel’s market cap declined by Rs 16,132.15 crore to Rs 6,31,044.50 crore. Infosys’ valuation declined by Rs 10,044.09 crore to Rs 6,92,980.35 crore.
ICICI Bank’s valuation declined by Rs 9,779.06 crore to Rs 7,09,254.77 crore. The market capitalization of Hindustan Unilever declined by Rs 7,013.53 crore to Rs 5,69,587.91 crore. Reliance Industries remained at first position in the list of top 10 companies. This was followed by TCS, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Infosys, LIC, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and ITC respectively.
