Market suffers profit booking, Sensex falls

Stock Market Closing Bell: Amidst the sluggish signals from the global market, the Indian stock market closed down on the third trading day of the week. The market remained volatile since morning, but at 1.45 pm the Sensex took a big dive. With this the stock market lost its six-day rise. Sensex fell 0.59 percent or 434.31 points and closed at 72,623.09. Whereas, Nifty fell 0.66 percent or 145.60 points and closed at 22,051.35. On Sensex, 20 out of 30 companies closed trading in the red. Whereas shares of 10 companies saw a rise. Along with this, selling was seen in midcap and smallcap indices in the market today.

What was the condition of the sectors?
In the falling market, red mark was seen on most of the indices like Nifty and Nifty. The biggest decline on the index was seen in media along with IT, oil and gas. Apart from this, there was a decline in auto, forma and private banks also. A slight increase of about four points was seen in Nifty Bank. Green mark was seen in FMCG, Metal, PSU Bank and Reality Index. Shares of Tata Steel, SBI, IndusInd and Tata Consumer were profitable on Nifty. Whereas, shares of BPCL, Coal India, NTPC, Power Grid, Wipro, L&T and HDFC Life were among the top losers.
How was the market in the morning?
The stock market got a slight gain in early trading. BSE’s 30-share index Sensex rose 60.05 points or 0.08 per cent to 73,117.45, while Nifty rose 21.65 points or 0.1 per cent to 22,218.60. Shares of 17 companies listed in Sensex and shares of 29 companies listed in Nifty were in profit. JSW Steel shares rose by more than two percent in early deals. Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel and Bharti Airtel rose more than one percent. In other Asian markets, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and China’s Shanghai Composite were in gains, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained almost flat.
