At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 83.22 per dollar and then touched 83.24 per dollar, a fall of four paise from its previous close.
The rupee fell by four paise to 83.24 per dollar in early trade on Wednesday in the interbank foreign exchange market. The rupee declined amid weakness in the local stock market and strengthening trend in the US currency.
Forex traders said that continuous withdrawal of foreign funds also affected the sentiment of the rupee. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 83.22 per dollar and then touched 83.24 per dollar, a fall of four paise from its previous close.
On Tuesday, the rupee had closed at 83.20 per dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against six major currencies, declined 0.14 per cent to 107.14. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.11 per cent lower at $90.82 per barrel.
