Market Update: Sensex hits high of 70,048.90 for the first time, Nifty crosses 21,000

The Sensex crossed the 70,000 level for the first time in early trade on Monday, while the Nifty crossed the 21,000 level. Key indices hit their all-time highs on Friday after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) raised growth forecast for the current financial year and kept policy rates unchanged.

The 30-share BSE Sensex hit its all-time high of 70,048.90 points soon after opening. Later it reduced its lead marginally to 69,958.13 points.

This is an increase of 132.53 points or 0.19 percent compared to Friday’s closing level. Reflecting a similar trend, the 50-share Nifty reached its highest level of 21,019.80 points. Later it was trading at 20,984.65 points with a gain of 15.25 points or 0.07 percent.

20 Sensex stocks were in profit, while 10 declined. 27 shares of Nifty rose in early trade while 22 shares declined. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have bought shares worth Rs 26,505 crore in the first six trading sessions of December.
