Marriage agencies are going bankrupt as the use of dating apps increases in Japan!

Tokyo: In Japan, people are now resorting to dating apps instead of marriage counseling agencies. The number of bankruptcy filings in Japan rose to record levels last year. A total of 11 marriage agencies in the country filed for bankruptcy last year, with another 11 suspending operations or disbanding, the Mainichi newspaper reported. This is a record for the service, which traditionally helps people find their partners and tie the knot, according to data published by research firm Teikoku Database.
This trend has been attributed to Japan’s declining birth rate and people marrying late, but dating apps are seen as the deciding factor. According to a survey by Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance in November 2023, one in four couples who got married last year met using a matching application. A similar number, it was claimed, were married people whom they met while working. The report said the marriage counseling industry is trying to attract new clients by offering services such as online interviews and wedding parties.
