Maruti estimates loss in production during first quarter, situation may improve from July

Maruti Suzuki: The country’s largest car company Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has expressed apprehension of loss in production in the first quarter of the current financial year. However, a senior company official says that the situation is expected to improve from the July-September quarter. The company is still grappling with the shortage of electronic spare parts, due to which there is a possibility of loss in production in the first quarter. The country’s largest car maker has been facing a chip crisis for a long time due to which its suppliers are not able to meet the market demand.

Maximum 1 lakh orders pending for Ertiga

Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer (Sales and Marketing) of Maruti Suzuki India said – We have suffered a production loss of 1.7 lakh units in the last financial year. In the third quarter of the last financial year, our loss was around 45,000 units. Similarly, there was a loss of about 38,000 units in the fourth quarter. Due to high demand and low supply, the company’s pending orders have crossed 4 lakh units. Ertiga has the highest number of 1 lakh orders pending.

Chip supply situation to improve in coming months

Shashank Srivastava said that with the current supply situation, the company has suffered production loss in April. The same situation is likely to continue in May and June as well. He said – there has been a loss in May and it will remain so in June. We will suffer loss of production in this quarter. Apart from the Ertiga, there are pending orders for 60,000 units of the compact SUV Brezza. Jimny and Fronx have pending orders for 30,000 units each. Srivastava expressed hope that there would be some improvement in the chip supply situation in the coming months. He said, so probably from July onwards we will see some improvement in the situation.

The company produced 1,44,097 vehicles in April

In April, the company produced 1,44,097 passenger vehicles, which is 6 percent less than the production of 1,52,954 units in the same month last year. In the last financial year 2022-23, the company produced a record 19.22 lakh units. However, the company missed the target of taking its production beyond 2 million units. Semiconductors are silicon chips used for control and memory functions in vehicles, computers, cellphones and other electronic products. In recent times, the use of semiconductors in the automotive industry has increased rapidly.
