New Delhi. Country’s leading vehicle maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) believes that the semiconductor shortage is likely to persist for the next few quarters, further delaying the supply of certain models. Speaking to PTI, MSE Senior Executive Officer (Sales and Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said that supply of semiconductors still remains a problem. He said, “In the last quarter, 46,000 units were lost due to semiconductors. This problem persists for some models in this quarter as well.
Maruti Suzuki has bookings pending for 3.69 lakh units, of which the Ertiga model alone accounts for 94,000 units. Apart from this, popular models like Grand Vitara and Brezza also have more than 37,000 and 61,500 bookings respectively. Semiconductor chips are prominently used in modern-day vehicles. In such a situation, due to non-availability of these chips, vehicles are also not supplied. Semiconductor availability has remained a problem for the past three years. The problem of MSI not being able to get semiconductors is likely to continue.
Srivastava said, “It is very difficult to predict when the situation will be normal. The reason for this is that nothing like this is visible right now. ”He said that SUVs have come to the leading role in the country’s passenger vehicle market with a share of 42.6 percent. He said that by the end of the current financial year, the sales figure of passenger vehicles could go up to 38.8 lakh units, which would be a record till now. In the last financial year, 30.7 lakh passenger vehicles were sold.
