Maruti Suzuki to transport record 3.2 lakh vehicles by rail in 2022

In terms of logistics, the share of railways has increased from five per cent in 2013 to 17 per cent in 2022. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Maruti Suzuki India, said in a statement, “Our strategy has enabled us to transport a record 3.2 lakh vehicles through railways in the last year. We aim to increase this number, he said. For this, we are laying railway tracks at our plants in Gujarat and at Manesar in Gurugram.
Rahul Bharti, executive officer, corporate affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, said the company is currently using the railways to transport vehicles to 18 destinations such as Mumbai, Guwahati and Mundra port. The company has transported 14 lakh vehicles in the last 10 years using railways. Maruti Suzuki uses 40 specially designed coaches to transport vehicles. Each coach has a capacity to hold 300 vehicles.
