Actress Mehreen Pirzada has recently made her OTT debut with the series ‘Sultan of Delhi’, for which she is in the headlines. One of the viral clips featured ‘marital rape’, which was being called a ‘sex scene’ by viewers. Mehreen is upset when the audience calls ‘marital rape’ a sex scene. The actress posted a post on social media platform X yesterday and expressed her displeasure over this matter.

Mehreen Pirzada on X wrote, ‘Recently I made my OTT debut with the web series, “Sultan of Delhi” on Disney Hotstar. I hope my fans enjoy watching the series. Sometimes the script demands certain actions that may go against your own ethics. As a professional actor who considers acting as an art as well as a job, he has to do some scenes which do not seem interesting when they are part of the story line.’

The actress further wrote, ‘There was a scene in Sultan of Delhi which depicted brutal marital rape. I am saddened to see that a serious issue like marital rape has been described by many in the media as a “sex scene”. It trivialises what is a serious issue that many women around the world are currently dealing with.’

She further wrote, ‘It bothers me that a certain section of the media and people on social media have raised this, these people should understand that they too have sisters and daughters and I pray to God that they should have the same in their lives. Never have to go through this kind of trauma again. The idea of ​​such cruelty and violence against women is disgusting. As an actor it is my job to do justice to the role and the team of Delhi Sultan headed by Milan Luthria sir was extremely professional in ensuring that while shooting some very difficult scenes we as actors did not feel uncomfortable at any time.
