Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s Merry Christmas released in theaters on January 12. The film received a lot of love from the critics as well as the audience. The movie had a slow start with earnings of Rs 2.45 crore on the opening day.
Merry Christmas maintained its earnings at the box office on its first Tuesday. According to a report by Sacnilk.com, with a slight decline, the film grossed Rs 1.15 crore on the fifth day across all languages in India.
According to the portal, the total business of the film is now around Rs 12.53 crore in India. Reportedly, the Hindi version of the film witnessed an occupancy of 10.25 percent on Tuesday. The total occupancy for its Tamil version was 26.04 percent.
Merry Christmas earned Rs 1.65 crore nett on Monday. The Hindi version earned 1.45 crores, while the Tamil version did a business of 20 lakhs.
Merry Christmas was released in Hindi and Tamil. Katrina Kaif is with Vijay Sethupathi for the first time. Apart from him, the Hindi version of the film also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan and Tinu Anand. The Tamil film stars Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jai Babu and Rajesh Williams in the same roles.
The film revolves around a Christmas evening, which turns the worlds of two people upside down. When two strangers meet, romance blossoms and the story takes a strange turn. It has been shot in two languages - Hindi and Tamil, with a different supporting cast.
“Merry Christmas” is Vijay Sethupathi’s third Bollywood film after last year’s “Mumbaikar” and “Jawaan”. “Mumbaikar” premiered on Jio Cinema, while “Jawaan” achieved a global box office collection of over Rs 1100 crore.
Meanwhile, Katrina Kaif’s last appearance was in the spy thriller “Tiger 3” with Salman Khan, which grossed over Rs 450 crore worldwide.
Sriram Raghavan, known for films like “Ek Hasina Thi,” “Johnny Gaddaar,” “Agent Vinod,” “Badlapur,” and “Andhadhun,” is making his sixth feature film “Merry Christmas.”
