New York: Mexican-Indian high school student Uma Sofia Srivastava has been crowned Miss Teen USA 2023. More than 50 girls from across the country took part in a live-streamed competition in Nevada, US. The 16-year-old high school junior at St. Elizabeth Academy became the first Mexican-Indian Miss New Jersey Teen USA earlier this year. After winning the prestigious title last week, Srivastava wrote on social media, ‘Is this true? I am so grateful and honored to be the first Mexican-Indian, first New Jersey, your Miss Teen USA 2023!’

‘This night is really the best night of my life because I have been crowned with people who have loved me and supported me in everything and the audience is cheering for me.’ Srivastava, who speaks English, Spanish, Hindi and French, aspires to become a United Nations ambassador. She works with the Lotus Petal Foundation to help underprivileged children in India receive good education, proper nutrition and health care.

Co-founder of the diversity and inclusion campaign at her school, Srivastava also participates in mock trials and Model United Nations. She wrote a book called ‘The White Jaguar’ which she says will help people of all ages learn to What makes them unique? She also plays the piano. Srivastava runs her own blog, That’s Fan Behavior, where she writes about her experience as a black woman. Miss New York Teen USA Stephanie Skinner was named first runner-up and Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA Maggie Ross was named second runner-up in the pageant.
