The Modi government at the Center has become very kind to sports. The budget of the Sports Ministry has been increased by more than Rs 700 crore by the Finance Minister. Last year Rs 2,673.35 crore was received, which has been increased to Rs 3,397.32 crore this year.

New Delhi. Keeping in mind the preparations for this year’s Asian Games and next year’s Paris Olympics, a provision of Rs 3,397.32 crore has been kept for the Sports Ministry in the Union Budget presented on Wednesday, which is Rs 723.97 crore more than last year. This amount is higher than the revised budget of the last financial year (2022-23), when the ministry had received Rs 2,673.35 crore. Last year, however, the actual allocation was Rs 3,062.60 crore. One of the main reasons for the reduction in the revised allocation for the year 2022-23 could be the postponement of the proposed Asian Games in China.

These games will be organized this year. The flagship program of the ministry, ‘Khelo India – National Program for the Development of Sports’ continues to be the priority of the government, with an allocation of Rs 1,045 crore against the revised allocation of Rs 606 crore during the previous financial year. An increase of Rs 439 crore in this shows the commitment of the government towards the programme. The event has over the years shown its ability to produce athletes for major global events such as the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

The budgetary allocation for the Sports Authority of India (SAI), responsible for organizing national camps for players, providing camp infrastructure and equipment, appointing coaches and maintaining sports infrastructure, has been increased by Rs 36.09 crore. Is. His allocation for the year 2023-24 is Rs 785.52 crore as against last year’s revised expenditure of Rs 749.43 crore. National Sports Federations (NSFs) have received an increased allocation of Rs 45 crore from last year’s revised budget of Rs 280 crore and will now get Rs 325 crore.

The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDLT), affiliated to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), earlier received funds through SAI but now these institutions will receive their funds directly. In this year’s budget, there is a provision of Rs 21.73 crore for NADA, while NDTL, which conducts dope tests, will get Rs 19.50 crore.

Countries around the world are striving for sporting excellence and paying more attention to sports science and scientific training of players. In such a situation, a provision of Rs 13 crore has also been made for the National Sports Science and Research Center in this year’s budget.
