Mumbai: Richest Indian Mukesh Ambani said the industry has a responsibility to build a stronger and more inclusive India. Addressing an event organized by the Jewelery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) here, the Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director expressed confidence that the industry will reach its target of touching the export level of $100 billion in the next few decades.

He said, ‘As a business community, we all collectively have a responsibility to build a stronger, better and more inclusive India, to achieve the vision of a developed India, a fully developed India, that our Prime Minister has envisioned for us in the next decades. The target has been set, it can be accomplished. Ambani congratulated the gems and diamond industry for taking exports to $40 billion in the last few decades and creating more than 50 lakh jobs in the country. Ambani said that today the industry has made a huge progress from a small beginning under the leadership of the people of Palanpur. He stressed that he was ‘proud’ of the work.

He said that the Ambani family has its roots in Kathiawar and also hinted at the possibility of working together with the people of Palanpur. “Sometimes a partnership between Kathaiwadis and Palanpuris can make the opportunity bigger,” he said. Ambani said his daughter-in-law Roka Mehta is the daughter of Russell Mehta of RoadbyBlue, one of the leading companies in the sector, and added that the Ambani family is ‘fortunate’ to have Roka.
