New Delhi:The country’s most valuable company Reliance Industries has earned a record profit in the March quarter, demolishing all the estimates. Mukesh Ambani’s company announced its fourth quarter results after the market closed on Friday. But along with this the company has also taken a shocking decision. Reliance has withdrawn the proposal for merger of its associate company Reliance New Energy Limited (RNEL). The company itself has informed about this in the information sent to the stock exchanges. RNEL will drive the renewable energy business of the company. The board of Reliance had approved the merger proposal of this company in May last year. The company has announced a huge investment of $75 billion in the green energy sector over the next 15 years.

RNEL is a wholly owned company of Reliance. Presently its merger proposal is pending for approval in the Mumbai branch of the National Company Law Tribunal. Reliance said in an exchange filing that its board had approved the proposal for merger of RENL with Reliance on May 6 last year. Based on the review of the New Energy/Renewable Energy business and the investment structure, the Board has decided to withdraw the proposal. This decision was taken in the meeting of the board of Reliance held on 21 April. The company will now pursue renewable energy business through RNEL.
