NAFED will buy Kharif onion in Gujarat

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): Central cooperative agency National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) will procure Kharif season onions from Thursday at specially set up onion Kharif centers to help onion producing farmers in Gujarat on the instructions of the government.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in a release on Wednesday that this step of the government will bring stability in the onion market in the state. The farmers of the state are under stress due to sharp fall in onion prices.
Taking stock of the situation due to fall in prices of onions at the end of Kharif season in the state, the Consumer Affairs Department has directed NAFED to start procuring onions from three major markets of Gujarat, the release said. NAFED will start procurement of onions from 9th March in Bhavnagar (Mahua), Gondal and Porbandar.
This has been planned by the government to give immediate relief to the onion farmers. The department has requested the farmers of Gujarat to bring their good quality and well ripened dry onion stock to avail better rates at the procurement centres.
Payment to farmers will be done online.
The department has said that procurement centers can also be increased as per the need.
