Perth (Uttam Hindu News)-Australia’s legendary spinner Nathan Lyon has become the eighth bowler in the world and the third Australian to take 500 Test wickets.
Lyon achieved this feat by LBWing Faheem Ashraf on the fourth day of the Test against Pakistan. He was halted at 496 wickets due to a calf injury during the Ashes earlier this year, but continued his good record at the Optus Stadium. He took 499 wickets in Pakistan’s first innings by dismissing Abdullah Shafiq, Imam-ul-Haq and Aamer Jamal. After this, he completed his 500th wicket by dismissing Faheem Ashraf LBW and also took his 501st wicket by dismissing Aamer Jamal in the second innings. He is the third Australian bowler to achieve this feat.
The name of former legendary spinner Shane Warne comes in the first place. Warne has 708 wickets in his name in 273 innings of 145 Tests. In second place, former fast bowler Glenn McGrath has taken 563 wickets in 243 innings of 124 matches. Lyon is in third place with 501 wickets.
Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan is on top with 800 wickets. After that Australian Shane Warne 708 wickets, England’s James Anderson 690 wickets, India’s Anil Kumble 619, England’s Stuart Broad 604 wickets, Australia’s Glenn McGrath 563 wickets, West Indies’ Courtney Walsh 519 wickets, Australia’s Nathan Lyon 501 wickets, India Ravichandran Ashwin has 489 wickets, South Africa’s Dale Steyn has 439 wickets and is in tenth place.
