The festival of Navratri is celebrated here with great enthusiasm and during this time the temple sees a huge crowd.
Vaishno Devi at Katra (Jammu and Kashmir)
Thousands of pilgrims visit Vaishno Devi in the Katra district of Jammu and Kashmir throughout the year. One of the 108 Shaktipeeths in the country, Vaishno Devi is a manifestation of Goddess Durga and she resides in the form of rocks inside the sacred cave of the temple. Pilgrims generally prefer to climb the 13 km trek from Katra and stand in long queues to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur (Tripura)
As per the beliefs, the Tripura Sundari Temple has been constructed at the place where the right leg of Sati fell during the dance of destruction of Lord Shiva. Located in the old city of Udaipur, about 60 km from Agartala, this temple was built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya (King of Tripura) in 1501. Here devotees worship Maa Kali, who is worshiped in the form of Soroshi.
Kalighat Temple, Kolkata (West Bengal)
The Kalighat temple, where Goddess Sati’s right toe is believed to have fallen, is thronged by thousands of devotees during April and October (the months of Navratri). This more than 2000 year old temple is now situated on the banks of a small water body called Adi Ganga.
