No need to carry hard copies of required documents

To ease the process, the Ministry of External Affairs said that if applicants use DigiLocker to upload their documents, they will not be required to carry hard copies of any documents during the application process. This will help in reducing the overall processing time, which is expected to enhance the quality of passport application process.

Why apply this rule?

To open a DigiLocker account, users will be required to register with their mobile number, which should already be linked with Aadhaar. They will then be sent a One-Time Passcode (OTP) on their linked mobile number, which they will need to login to their DigiLocker account. Also, it must be kept in mind that if you want to make any changes in DigiLocker, you will need to make changes in Aadhaar.

Which documents can DigiLocker store?

You can use this system to store any type of document. The Ministry has now also permitted the use of Aadhaar documents through DigiLocker for online application submission. Any kind of certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport and voter ID card can be kept safe on DigiLocker.

Why use DigiLocker?

Well, this virtual locker has been introduced by the government to facilitate your application process as well as keep your documents safe. Since any type of document can be stored in it, you will get the freedom of not carrying your important documents in hard copies.
