The Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India has maintained the policy rate repo at 6.5 percent for the sixth consecutive time. Announcing the bi-monthly monetary policy review, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that amidst uncertainty at the global level, the country’s economy is showing strength, on one hand economic growth is increasing, on the other hand inflation has come down. He said that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has maintained its stance of withdrawing the accommodative stance to control inflation and accelerate economic growth.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das further said that the pace of growth is accelerating and it is surpassing the estimates of most analysts. MSF (Marginal Standing Facility Rate) and bank rate remain at 6.75 percent. Uncertainty in food prices continues to weigh on core inflation. Global growth rate is expected to remain stable in 2024. The RBI Governor said that the MPC is committed to keeping the inflation target at four percent.
