Pune-based businessman Gaurav Sanas argues that when fridges or air conditioners can be bought on instalments, mangoes can also be bought on instalments.
Significantly, the Hapus or Alphonso mangoes of Deogarh and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra are famous not only in India but across the world. This variety of mango is available in the market at Rs.800 to Rs.1300 per dozen. In such a situation, it is out of the budget for every person to buy this mango. People should not be deprived of tasting these mangoes, so the trader has started this scheme.
Significantly, Alphonso is considered the best among all varieties of mangoes, but due to its excellent taste and low production, its prices often remain beyond the reach of common people. Through this scheme, traders are now ready to sell Alphonso on easy monthly installment ie EMI like any expensive electronic item.
Gaurav Sanas says that the prices of Alphonso have gone up as soon as the sale started. In such a situation, if Alphonso is also given on EMI, then everyone can taste it. Sons of Gurukripa Traders and Fruit Products, a fruit trading firm, claim that they are the first establishment in the country to sell mangoes on EMI. He said, we thought that if fridge, AC and other electronic appliances can be bought on EMI, then why not mangoes? In this way everyone can buy this mango.
One can buy Alphonso from their shop on installments just like buying a mobile phone on EMI. This requires the customer to have a credit card and the purchase price is then converted into installments of three, six or 12 months. However, to buy Alphonso on EMI at Sun’s shop, a minimum purchase of Rs 5,000 is required. He claimed that so far four people have come forward to take advantage of this scheme. Thus begins the journey of selling the Alphonso on EMI.
