Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, executive chairman of Oberoi Group, died on Tuesday morning. He was the patron of PRS Oberoi Hotels, also known as ‘Biki’. An Oberoi Group spokesperson said that PRS Oberoi was known for changing the face of the hotel business in India. He died this morning. He was 94 years old.
Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi or PRS Oberoi, born in New Delhi in 1929, was the executive chairman of EIH Limited, the flagship company of the Oberoi Group. He also held the post of Chairman of Oberoi Hotels Private Limited, the major shareholder of EIH Limited. He was famous by the name of ‘Biki’. Talking about PRS Oberoi, he was the son of late Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi, the founder of The Oberoi Group.
Where did PRS Oberoi study?
PRS Oberoi studied in India, United Kingdom and Switzerland. According to the website of EIH Limited, apart from managing luxury hotels in several countries, PRS Oberoi played a key role in growing Oberoi Hotels and Resorts. Under his leadership the ‘Oberoi’ brand became known for good luxury hotels. PRS Oberoi will be remembered for giving international recognition to Oberoi hotels by opening many luxury hotels in big cities of the country.
Has been honored with Padma Vibhushan
In January 2008, in recognition of his exceptional service, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award. He was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the ILTM (International Luxury Travel Market) held in Cannes in December 2012. PRS Oberoi stepped down as Chairman and Director of EIH Limited on May 3, 2022.
There has been a wave of mourning after the news of PRS Oberoi’s demise.
