Who is Chandi Bihari
Chand Bihari, who once sold pakodas on the footpaths of Jaipur along with his mother and brother to feed the family, is now a well-known jeweler in Patna. His annual turnover is more than Rs 20 crore. Even after spending his childhood in poverty, he did not lose courage and today he is the owner of a business worth crores. Its story started from Jaipur. He grew up in Jaipur with five siblings. Father was addicted to gambling. The economic condition of the house worsened. To feed the children, the mother started selling pakoras on the pavement in Jaipur. Chand and his brother Ratan used to help their mother. The family used to feed the family with the income they earned from pakoras after braving the scorching heat.
Sarees sold at Patna station
The condition of the house was not such that he could go to school. In the year 1966, when Chand Bihari was just 10 years old, he used to sell pakoras on a cart with his mother. In the year 1972, his elder brother Ratan got married in Bihar. She received Rs 5000 as a wedding gift, with which she bought 18 pieces of Chandauri sarees in Jaipur and took them to Patna. When he showed the sample there, people liked it very much. He started the work of selling sarees from Jaipur to Patna. When the work started increasing, he also called his brother Chand. Chand used to sell sarees at Patna railway station. For a few years, he started his shop on the footpath near Patna Railway Station.
This is how the jewelery business started
The work of Rajasthani sarees started. With the profit made, he opened his shop in Kadamkuan, Patna in the year 1977. It was only a few months that his shop was burgled and the whole business collapsed. Although he did not lose courage. With the help of his brother, he tried his hand at the jewelery business. Brother gave 5 thousand rupees and he opened Gems and Jewelery shop in Patna. His business took off. Then he started a jewelery shop with gold and silver. On the strength of his quality and trust, he has accumulated his business. Today his small shop has become a company. In the year 1988, he earned 10 lakhs. His turnover in the year 2016 was around 17 crores. Today they are doing business of more than 20 crores. His name is included in the legendary jewelers of Bihar-UP. He has a lot of name in the surrounding areas including Patna. Also honored by All India Business and Community Foundation in Singapore. Chand Bihari’s business is now looked after by son Pankaj. Chand does not forget his days of struggle. Despite being the owner of crores, he has kept his life very simple.
