Melbourne. Former England captain Michael Vaughan wants to see more efforts from Pakistan’s fast bowling spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was not at his best in the opening Test series against Australia. He said that the left arm fast bowler needs to bowl a little more fast.

In the first Test against Australia in Perth, Shaheen took match figures of 2/172 in 45.2 overs, as Pakistan lost by 360 runs.

Vaughan also feels that if Pakistan does not fight with the ball, the poor performance in Perth could be repeated in the upcoming Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.

Against Australia in Perth Do you want my honest answer? I don’t (expect them to be more competitive in the second and third Test). I mean, they’re a team that’s almost going through a little bit of a transition. This is the first Pakistani bowling attack that I have seen that does not have a bowler with a speed of more than 145 km/h.

“They usually come here with a bit of pace. They have skill in their bowling attack but, I am a bit worried about Shaheen Shah Afridi. I think he lacks a bit of pace.”

Pakistan were all out for 271 in 101.5 overs of their first innings in Perth, where their run rate saw an increase after captain Shan Masood came out to bat. But the resistance crumbled in the second innings and Pakistan were bowled out for only 89 runs and lost by 360 runs.

Vaughan believes that it will be challenging and difficult for Pakistan batsmen to bat against Australia’s bowling attack at the MCG, which will host the Boxing Day Test from December 26-30.
