New Delhi. Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday ordered cash-strapped GoFirst to stop selling air tickets with immediate effect till further instructions. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has asked the airline to stop booking and selling tickets directly/indirect with immediate effect “until further orders”. The DGCA issued a notice to GoFirst for “failure to continue operating in a safe, efficient and reliable manner”. Post the reply of the airline within 15 days, after which the DGCA will take a decision on its license. Beleaguered airline GoFirst moved the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on May 8, citing the urgency of seeking the bankruptcy court’s orders on its plea seeking an interim stay. The airline claimed that it has received notices from the aircraft lessors for termination and has also moved the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Sources said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also issued a show cause notice to the airline for its failure to operate in a safe, efficient and reliable manner. GoFirst has already put a hold on tickets till May 15. Along with this, the airline has canceled its flights till May 12.
Airlines are facing financial crisis
Last week, the airline also filed a voluntary bankruptcy resolution application before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) citing financial crisis arising out of timely engine deliveries. The petition has been heard and the decision has been reserved. According to sources, after the crisis deepened in GoFirst, the DGCA has asked it to immediately stop booking tickets directly or indirectly till further orders. Apart from this, it has also been asked to respond if the aircraft is not able to operate within 15 days. Sources said a decision on continuation of the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) granted to GoFirst will be taken based on the response received from GoFirst.
