Nowadays patriotic films and OTT series are being made continuously. How do you view this trend?
If you are now saying that the trend has increased then it is very shameful. I have been saying from the beginning that our army, ever since the country became independent, they have not got any rest. They have already fought 6 battles. Apart from this, something or the other constantly happens on the border everyday. As disciplined as our army has been, they work even during floods and earthquakes. Not only this, even if a child falls in a borewell, our army is useful. The army was also useful in building an emergency bridge in Mumbai. When you see them in uniform, the feeling of patriotism is reflected in us. If people are liking this type of content today, then it is a positive thing.

Stories like ‘Fauja’ or the stories related to the background of the army are being brought, so do you think that people are getting any message and film makers or films are being successful in their purpose?
In school children are made to sing Vande Mataram, the national anthem. Seeing the flag, you have to respect it, it is taught. Not to steal, not to fight, all this is taught, but does everyone do this? Theft still happens. Just because you are teaching someone a good thing, it does not mean that the whole society will change overnight. There are more good people in the world, that’s why the world is going on. You should see that if you did not teach good things, there would be only crime in the country today. When you are taught good things, somewhere your inner self stops you from doing wrong things. Things don’t change overnight with a film.

You have been in the world of cinema for a long time. What challenges do you see in cinema today and then?
Today people have more opportunities, in our time there were not even TV channels. Then when TV came, a window opened, so the way of income opened. But then someone told me that now you have worked in TV, so people will not take you in films. While Shah Rukh Khan did many TV shows in those days, people remember only ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’. Irrfan Khan was doing TV, then he became such a big star. Vidya Balan came from TV only. How many episodes of ‘Savdhaan India’ did Pankaj Tripathi, today he does not have dates. Now that OTT has come, another window has opened. Now this does not mean that cinema making will stop. It is still gaining ground in India, cinemas have not closed in Europe yet, while OTT is doing well there. When cinemas are not closed there, it will take a long time here.

You have worked in many films. What is the story behind getting Fauja movie?
I didn’t know the director of the film. The theater that Pramod ji does came to us, he saw my work. He contacted me through his acquaintance. After listening to the story, I said that I will do this film. I had even told that we will take the technician, but later he arranged for it. Later posted in Mumbai and people helped there too. He has taken the entire team of technicians from Haryana itself. The sound was good. Music was good. I wanted to be associated with this film because we believe in the message this film is giving. During the filming itself, I came to know that every sixth soldier in our army is from Haryana.
