While fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the film, Zoya Akhtar released a new poster of the film on Monday morning. In the poster, the cast including Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Mihir Ahuja, Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda are seen sitting in and around a pink sofa placed in a living room. The film stars Agastya Nanda as the red-headed Archie, while Suhana and Khushi play Veronica Lodge and Betty Cooper, respectively.
Zoya Akhtar had earlier revealed the teaser saying, “It is a great pleasure and an absolute honor to be asked to make the Indian adaptation of this hugely iconic comic. It’s a big part of my childhood. I grew up reading it. Akhtar had said, “It’s very exciting to be able to take the characters and introduce them to a new generation, and at the same time keep that essence of nostalgia and humor alive for people like me.”
Billed as a coming-of-age story, ‘The Archies’ is set in the 1960s and follows the lives of popular fictional teenagers Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Reggie Mantle. The filmmaker clarified that the film is set around the “Anglo-Indian community”.
Describing The Archies as a film about “seven kids and their mischief”, Akhtar said he is “obsessed” with the theme of friendship in films. “It’s a purebred ensemble, it has seven children. It’s about reciprocity and it determines friendship.” The director said, Archies Comics is “closest to my heart”.
The Archies team will attend a Netflix fan event in Brazil on June 17. It is expected that the makers will announce the release date at the event.
