Mumbai: Getting good news from foreign stock market. US markets were boosted by better economic data. The Asian indices also showed gains in line with the gains in the US indices. But, defying the strength of global indices, Indian benchmark indices fell more than 1% today.

On Friday, except BSE Auto and BSE Healthcare index, all the sectoral indices were trading with a fall. The biggest decline was seen in BSE Oil & Gas and BSE Utilities. Each declined by about 5%. Whereas, BSE Auto impressed the investors with its strong gains. This was driven by gains of over 6% each in Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto.

At 10:45 am today, the BSE Sensex slipped 1.10% to 59,543. The Nifty 50 index fell 1.00% to the level of 17,714. On Sensex, Tata Motors, ITC Ltd and Bajaj Finserv were top gainers, while HDFC, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank were top losers in the market.

Looking at the Advance Decline Ratio on BSE, today 944 stocks advanced and 2,268 stocks declined. Thus, the advance decline ratio is strongly in favor of the downside. There was heavy selling pressure in the broader indices as the major indices underperformed. Shares of Top BSE Smallcap gainer Repro India Ltd rose over 12% as small-cap bulls remained active. There was heavy buying in the shares of Automotive Stampings & Assemblies and Jindal Saw Ltd.
