There was a steep 15 per cent drop in consumption in the first fortnight of July, but it picked up in the second fortnight.

Apart from this, the demand for fuel in the agricultural sector has also decreased, due to which the total demand for diesel has been affected. Petrol sales increased by 3.8 percent to 2.76 million tonnes in July compared to the same period last year. Consumption declined by 10.5 per cent in the first fortnight of July but picked up later. However, sales were down 4.6 per cent on a monthly basis. Both manufacturing and service sectors are growing in India. Because of this, the demand for petrol and diesel increased in the second fortnight of March.

Aviation fuel demand increased

According to the data, petrol consumption in July was 16.6 per cent higher than the month of July 2021 affected by Kovid. Similarly, in the month under review, the consumption of diesel has increased by 12.8 percent as compared to July 2021. It is almost constant as compared to July, 2019. Aviation fuel (ATF) demand rose by 10.3 per cent to 603,500 tonnes in July from the same period last year, with steady growth in air travel. This figure is more than double as compared to July 2021. On a monthly basis, there has been an increase of about 1.6 percent in the sale of jet fuel. ATF sales in June 2023 were 594,100 tonnes. Industry officials said that due to increase in industrial activities in the country in the last few months, the demand for fuel has increased. The sale of cooking gas (LPG) declined by 1.7 percent on an annual basis to 2.46 million tonnes in July. LPG consumption was four percent more than in July 2021.
