Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced the hike in prices in a live broadcast late on Saturday. Dar admitted that the change in prices was necessary as the prices of petroleum products have increased in the international market in the last 15 days. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+) announced production cuts earlier this month. Since then the prices of crude oil have increased. However, even after this increase, the price of petrol in Pakistan is less than in India. Petroleum marketing companies in India last changed the price of petrol and diesel in April last year. After that, in May, the central government had cut excise on petrol and diesel.
