The opposition vehemently opposed the imposition of cess on petrol and diesel in the Kerala Assembly. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan said, the budget hides the fragile financial condition of the state government and the provisions made in it amount to looting the public. With the decision to impose cess on liquor, more number of people will turn to drugs. The budget was presented without proper study. The cess on petrol and diesel has been imposed at a time when we are grappling with rising fuel prices, he said. This will increase the prices of essential commodities and affect the common man.

UDF MLAs create ruckus in Kerala Assembly, House adjourned
Members of the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) disrupted proceedings in the Kerala Assembly over the Left Front government’s refusal to withdraw budgetary proposals to impose a cess on the sale of fuel and liquor. After the uproar by the opposition members, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day. The current session of the Vidhan Sabha will now resume on February 27.
