New Delhi (Best Hindu News): The 44th Annual Plenary Meeting of COPOLCO, the prestigious consumer standard setting body of the International Standards Organization (ISO) was inaugurated in the capital from May 23-26. Minister Piyush Goyal will do.
Copolco President Sadie Denton, ISO Secretary General Sergio Mujica and other high officials of ISO will also participate in this conference of ISO, which has a membership of 168 countries, according to a release issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs on Monday. Through its Consumer Committee on ISO Standards Development (COPOLCO), ISO ensures public participation in the standardization process.
ISO COPOLCO, or the Committee on Consumer Policy, is a committee of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) responsible for promoting consumer interests in the standardization process and ensuring that standards are developed with consumer needs in mind. The convention, being organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), will also feature interactive sessions and workshops on topics relevant to the national standards body of India, apart from other specific activities aimed at consumer interaction in the standardization process.
The event will have a distinguished presence of heads of government and business sectors and international delegations of eminent global stakeholders, according to the release. The conclave will have a people-centric approach and discussions on topics such as ‘Challenges and Good Practices for Consumer Relations’, ‘Empowering Consumers for a Sustainable Future’ and ‘Consumer Protection and Legal Framework’.
Therefore, the plenary meeting of ISO COPOLCO is considered a major international event in which representatives of the member countries of ISO have the opportunity to discuss and develop strategies to accelerate the development of standards in the world.
India has been actively involved in international standardization matters for a long time and is one of the founding members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
In its capacity as the national standards body of India, BIS is actively involved in matters of international and regional standardization. BIS is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and also a member of the International Electro Technical Commission (IEC) through the Indian National Committee (INC). BIS is also a member of regional standards bodies such as the Pacific Area Standards Congress (PASC) and the South Asian Regional Standards Organization (SARSO) under the framework of IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa).
