PM Kisan Yojana: The ambitious Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana was started in December 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide direct financial help to the farmers. Under this scheme, every four months, Rs 2,000 is given directly into the bank account of the registered farmers by the government.
There is a discussion going on that the amount of financial assistance given to farmers by the Central Government can be increased from six thousand to ten thousand rupees. This means that every four months the farmers will get an amount of more than three thousand rupees instead of two thousand rupees. However, no indication or official announcement has been made by the Central Government regarding this.
The discussion about increasing the amount of PM Kisan is being done on the basis that recently the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) had given a report. In this report, it has been advocated to increase the amount of financial assistance given to farmers.
Citing rising inflation, ICRIER in its report has said that under PM Kisan Yojana, farmers are being given Rs 6,000 annually. But, inflation is continuously increasing. Keeping inflation in mind, the central government should reduce the financial assistance amount to at least Rs 10,000 to help the farmers.
According to the report of CNBC-TV18, India has the highest number of small farmers i.e. farmers who have less than two hectares of land. Farmers often have to suffer losses due to trade policy. In such a situation, the financial assistance given to farmers by the central government is very less.
A large number of ineligible farmers were also taking advantage of this scheme of the Central Government. The government has identified such people and removed them from the list. This has resulted in saving of Rs 10 thousand crores. The report also advised to include landless farmers, tiedars and tenant farmers in the scheme.
So far, 14 installments have been given under this scheme by the Central Government. It is being told that the 15th installment can be given before Diwali. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
