PMJDY completes nine years, more than 50 crore accounts opened. Loktej Business News

New Delhi, 28 August (Hindustan Times). One of the ambitious schemes of the Central Government, PMJDY i.e. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has completed nine years today. Started on August 28, 2014, under this scheme, 50 crore maximum Jan Dhan accounts have been opened so far. During the period of this year, the amount deposited in Jan Dhan account has crossed Rs 2.03 lakh crore.

It is notable that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the launch of Jan Dhan Yojana on 15 August 2014. From 28 August 2014, this scheme was implemented in the entire country. The objective of this scheme was to provide bank account facility to those people living below the poverty line, who were deprived of bank account facility even after so many years of independence. Zero balance bank accounts were to be opened under PMJDY. One of its objectives was to reach directly to those people who were benefitted under government schemes. But in the absence of a bank account, they had to receive cash payments through brokers or middlemen. After opening the Jan Dhan account, these people started receiving payments under government schemes directly into their bank accounts, eliminating the role of middlemen. Since its inception, people living below the poverty line have embraced it, due to which 50.09 crore Jan Dhan accounts with zero balance have been opened so far in a span of nine years.

According to the Finance Ministry, there are 225 crore bank accounts in the country so far. There are also a large number of people in the country who have more than one bank account. Despite this, still about eight percent of the country’s population is deprived of a bank account. The intention of the government is to link every adult with a bank account by March 2024, so that no one has to take the help of middlemen or brokers for payment under government schemes and the full amount of payment made by the government Receive them in your account only.
