Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News): Power sector experts on Friday lauded the collaboration between Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Gautam Adani-led Adani Group. RIL has bought 26 percent stake in Adani Group’s power plant in Madhya Pradesh. He claimed that it is one of the key chapters of the country’s power sector, especially considering its installed capacity of 4,28,000 MW and the ambitious plan to add 5,00,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Power sector experts are hopeful that there will be many more such collaborations in view of the push by the Central and various state governments to liberalize the sector. As per the collaboration, RIL will buy 26 per cent stake in Adani Power subsidiary Mahan Energen for Rs 50 crore and buy 500 MW of power for the Madhya Pradesh plant. According to Adani Power, a plant with 600 MW capacity of Mahan Thermal Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh will be designated as a captive unit as per the prescribed norms.

Commenting on this, former power secretary R.V. “The collaboration between the country’s two largest conglomerates will not only promote such collaborations but will also encourage other collaborative efforts that will lead to even greater heights of success,” Shahi said. “What has been achieved since the Electricity Act, 2003 is more than three times what was achieved during the preceding 50 years,” he said.

Shahi said, “This is the era of renewable energy, which has also been helped by de-licensing of power generation, which has taken the growth in the power sector to a different level. We are ready to achieve a capacity of more than eight lakh MW by the year 2032. “The entire capacity can be doubled in the next 10 years after 2032, taking the capacity to more than 1,500 GW. “This will be at the core of the country’s development strategy to increase GDP to five trillion dollars and beyond.”

Ashok Khurana, Director General, Association of Power Producers, said, “This collaboration has been possible due to the liberalized captive power supply framework as well as changes in the transmission licensing system, where transmission licenses are granted to consumers, while the Central Electricity Regulator The Commission has simplified the procedures for this. “In fact, we will see many such collaborations between generators and consumers.”

Former Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) member Jayant Dev stressed that India’s two top business houses collaborating in the power sector is a good sign for the country to move towards energy security. Harry Dhaul, founder of the Independent Power Producers Association of India, said such collaborations are positive steps for the development of the Indian power sector from an energy security perspective.
