Mumbai: The stock market opened with a boom on Monday, the first day of the week. The Nifty 50 index closed at 17,956.6 points in the previous session and today it opened at 18,033.15 points. This happened because of strong global signals. The US stock market also gained momentum on Friday. Due to the earnings results of big banks, there was a boom in the US stock market. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.7%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3% and the S&P 500 gained 0.4%. Most Asian bourses were also up in early trade today due to gains in Wall Street. At 10.20 am, the Nifty 50 index was trading at 17,959.5 points with a gain of 2.9 points, or 0.02 per cent.

Broader market indices outperformed Frontline indices. The Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index gained 0.15% and the Nifty Small-Cap 100 index gained 0.25%. As of January 13, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net buyers. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,422.39 crore.
