Mumbai: The Nifty 50 index opened with a slight decline on the last trading day of the week today. It had closed at 17,893.45 in the previous session and opened at 17,847.55 today. The domestic stock market declined due to weak global cues. US stock markets closed down on Thursday. Higher interest rates and corporate earnings results sent Wall Street down. The Nasdaq Composite declined by 1.02%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average by 0.73% and the S&P 500 index by 0.88%. At the time of writing the article, their futures were also trading down. The effect of the fall in the American stock market was also seen on the Asian markets today. Most Asian markets opened with losses. Except Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, all the indices are trading with a decline.
At 9:45 am, the Nifty 50 index was trading at 17,813.1 points, down 80.35 points, or 0.45 per cent. Broader market indices are showing a mixed performance vis-a-vis Frontline Indices. The Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index declined 0.22% while the Nifty Small-Cap 100 index gained 0.21%. As per the February 9 data, both FIIs and DIIs were net sellers. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded shares worth Rs 144.73 crore while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 205.25 crore.
