Punjab announces Rs 300 crore incentive to promote electric vehicles

Chandigarh. The Punjab government has announced an incentive of Rs 300 crore over the next three years to promote the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the state and reduce pollution. Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that these incentives would be provided on electric two-wheelers, e-cycles, e-rickshaws, e-autos and electric light commercial vehicles. He directed the transport department officials to write to the finance department to create a dedicated EV fund to increase the adoption of EVs in the state.
The Minister was presiding over the meeting of the State Level EV Committee constituted for the implementation of Electric Vehicle Policy-2023 here on Wednesday. According to an official statement, Bhullar took stock of the responsibilities assigned to various departments with regard to the implementation of the EV policy and asked the officials to implement them at the earliest. Bhullar directed the officials of Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited and Punjab Energy Development Agency to prepare a report within a month regarding setting up of electric vehicle charging stations and identify suitable sites.
