Lala ji, one of the revolutionary trio of Lal, Pal, Bal, was born on 28 January 1865 from the womb of Mata Gulab Devi at Radhakrishna ji’s house in Dhudhike village near Jagraon, Punjab. Father used to do the work of teaching and was a very learned person with pure thoughts and religious tendency, which had a complete impact on the child Lajpat Rai. Child Lajpat Rai had a lot of affection with his parents. Once in his childhood, when his parents were sick together, he left his studies and served them with full dedication and after recovering, the father said that son, you had to suffer a lot, then the boy Lajpat said that it is my duty to serve you. And this has given me happiness. On this, father blessed that he should always serve the poor, which he made it his life’s goal to help the poor throughout his life.

Lala ji’s higher education took place in Lahore. After passing law, when father was transferred to Hisar, he started practicing law in Hisar itself and started participating in social works along with law. Due to interaction with the people and social work, he continued to serve the public by becoming the President of the Municipal Board there for many years. Due to hard work and honesty in advocacy, he got a lot of fame. Lajpat Rai, who became fearless and courageous from Bachchan due to the rituals received from his parents, started participating in revolutionary activities to free the country from the clutches of the British, on which the British arrested him and locked him in Mandalay Jail. After his release from jail, he went to England in 1914 in a Congress deputation and from there went to Japan. But in the meantime the First World War started and the British Government banned them from coming to India. Then he went to America from Japan and stayed there and started trying to liberate the country. At the end of the World War, he returned home and became active again to liberate the country and actively participated in the ongoing non-cooperation movement, due to which his stature in the Congress party started increasing and he emerged as a senior leader. Due to his seniority, he was elected as the President in the special session of the Congress held in Calcutta in 1920. Now he started participating in revolutionary activities more actively and was caught several times.

With the intention of doing something to liberate the country from the British, at that time he came to Lahore, the stronghold of the revolutionaries, started practicing in the High Court and with full enthusiasm jumped into the freedom movement to liberate the country. Due to his kind nature Here too, along with advocacy, he always went ahead to help the poor, backward and the needy, and during the severe famine in Bengal, he himself went from village to village and collected money to help the people there. There was so much warmth, enthusiasm and strength in his voice that even without a mike, even the people at the back of the crowd of thousands could hear his voice clearly. Along with revolutionary activities, he established Dayanand Anglo School in Lahore with the help of his friend by giving forty thousand rupees from himself to educate the youth and fill them with patriotism. Lala ji always opposed the oppressive policies of the British and this was the reason that in 1928, when the British tried to impose a black law that crushed the sentiments of the countrymen, there was tremendous opposition in the whole country, 63-year-old Lajpat Rai ji He himself took command of the protest in Lahore.

On October 30, when the Simon Commission reached Lahore, thousands of countrymen led by Lala ji took out a huge procession and welcomed the Simon Commission at the station with the slogans of Simon Go Back. The lathis were badly injured and despite this, while addressing the public meeting, he declared that every single lathi lying on my body would prove to be the last nail in the rule of the British rule. Injured Lala ji was taken to the hospital for treatment but he could not recover and finally on 17th November 1928, this lion who fought for the freedom of the country sacrificed his life in the form of Havan of freedom struggle.
