Railway will reduce water consumption by 20 percent, board chairman informed

Addressing the seventh international conference Rail Tech-2023 organized by industry body Assocham, Lahoti said that the Railways is modernizing its assets using innovative technology with the help of its talents. These are being used for track construction and maintenance, electrification, signalling, locomotive and coach manufacturing, monitoring and control of trains and communication.
New Delhi. Railways has set a target of reducing water consumption by 20 per cent by the end of this year. Railway Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anil Kumar Lahoti gave this information on Friday. Lahoti informed that Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) have also been set up at more than 250 railway stations for waste management.

He said, “Apart from climate action, the Railways has taken significant steps to address other environmental challenges such as water and waste management. We have set a target of 20 percent reduction in water usage by 2023. Apart from this, MRFs have been installed for waste management at more than 250 stations.
