Mumbai: Reliance Industries Group on Saturday said it has committed an assistance of Rs 25 crore to help rebuild the livelihood of flood-affected people in Uttarakhand and continue with its social development efforts in the state. The assistance is channeled through Anant Ambani, the son of group chief Mukesh Ambani and director in the company.
Reliance said in a statement, ‘We have been associated with the happiness and sorrow of the people of Uttarakhand for the last one decade. The phenomenal ability of the state government and its people to face the crisis has been an inspiration for Reliance. Heavy rains in Uttarakhand during July and August this year caused massive loss of life and property due to floods and landslides.
Reliance had also helped the people of the state during the floods of 2013 and similar calamities in subsequent years. In 2013, Reliance Foundation contributed to the effort to rescue, provide relief and shelter and rebuild livelihoods to people stranded at various places there. The company had also helped the people of the state during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Reliance says that in collaboration with the state government and other organizations, Reliance has taken various social initiatives. Rural communities were supported to create nearly five million cubic meters of water harvesting capacity, helping improve water availability for agriculture and consumption in 90 villages. Reliance has said it has helped over 3.8 lakh children and youth in the state take up football, basketball and athletics through its Education and Sports for All initiative.
