Reliance Industries in early trade, buying in IT shares led to gains in stock markets

Mumbai Major stock indices rose in early trade on Friday amid buying in Reliance Industries and IT stocks. During this, the 30-share Sensex of BSE climbed 134 points to reach 59,766.37. The broader NSE Nifty was up 36.4 points at 17,660.85. HCL Technologies was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, gaining two per cent. Apart from this, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, Asian Paints, Titan, Wipro, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Tata Consultancy Services, Bajaj Finance and Reliance Industries were among the major gainers.
On the other hand, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Maruti, Tata Motors, UltraTech Cement and Larsen & Toubro declined. Japan’s Nikkei, Hong Kong’s Hangseng, South Korea’s Kospi and China’s Shanghai Composite were in the red in other markets in Asia. US markets closed down on Thursday. On Thursday, the Sensex closed at 59,632.35, up 64.55 points or 0.11 per cent, while the Nifty closed at 17,624.45, up 5.70 points or 0.03 per cent. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude was down 0.09 per cent at $81.03 per barrel. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,169.32 crore on Thursday, according to stock market data.
