Reliance jumps eight places to 45th in Forbes global list

Releasing the list of the world’s top 2,000 companies for 2023, Forbes said it has been prepared on the basis of four factors – sales, profits, assets and market valuation.
New Delhi. Billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd has climbed eight places to rank 45th in Forbes’ latest Global 2000 list. This is the highest position among any Indian company in this list. Releasing the list of the world’s top 2,000 companies for 2023, Forbes said it has been prepared on the basis of four factors – sales, profits, assets and market valuation. America’s largest bank JPMorgan topped the list for the first time since 2011. The total assets of the bank are 3700 billion dollars. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, which topped the list last year, dropped to 338th position this year due to losses in its investment portfolio.
Saudi oil company Aramco is in second place, followed by three giant-sized state-owned banks. Technology giants Alphabet and Apple are ranked 7th and 10th. Reliance Industries was ranked 45th with sales of US$109.43 billion and profit of US$8.3 billion. The group’s businesses span from oil to telecommunications. Reliance Industries is ahead of Germany’s BMW Group, Switzerland’s Nestle, China’s Alibaba Group, American Procter & Gamble and Japan’s Sony in the list. State Bank of India is ranked 77th (105th in 2022), HDFC Bank at 128th (153rd in 2022) and ICICI Bank at 163rd (204th in 2022) in the list.
Other companies include ONGC at 226th, LIC at 363, TCS at 387, Axis Bank at 423, NTPC at 433, Larsen & Toubro at 449, Bharti Airtel at 478, Kotak Mahindra Bank at 502, Indian Oil Corporation at 540, Infosys at 554 and Bank of Baroda at 586. A total of 55 Indian companies are included in the list. Billionaire businessman Gautam Adani’s three group companies Adani Enterprises (1062nd position), Adani Power (1488th position) and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1598th position) figure in this list.
