‘Republic Day is a proud day for every Indian’

On December 9, 1946, the first meeting for constitution making was held in the Parliament House, in which Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the President of the Constituent Assembly. There, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was made the chairman of this committee.
India, the world’s largest democracy, is celebrating its 74th Republic Day. This day reminds us that we got a way to run this vast country full of diversity. By the way, many times people consider Republic Day and Independence Day to be the same. I am also congratulated many times for Independence Day on 26th January. But, there is a fundamental difference between the two. We got independence on 15th August and we got our constitution on 26th January. Every Indian should have the subtle knowledge of this historic Republic Day, which implements this constitution. For this purpose, I have tried to give some important information along with best wishes.
On December 9, 1946, the first meeting for constitution making was held in the Parliament House, in which Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the President of the Constituent Assembly. There, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was made the chairman of this committee. After deep brainstorming, the Constitution of India was prepared on 26 November 1949 in two years, 11 months and 18 days. That’s why we celebrate Constitution Day on 26 November. Then exactly two months after the constitution was prepared i.e. on 26 January 1950, it was implemented in the country. India was made a democratic country because of this constitution. That’s why we Indians celebrate Republic Day on 26 January. The original copy of our constitution was written by Prem Bihari Narayan Raizada in two languages, Hindi and English, which was handwritten and calligraphed copy. No typing or print was used in the constitution written over a period of 6 months. At the time of coming into force of this constitution, it had 395 articles, 8 schedules and 22 parts. Our entire constitution with 395 articles was written by hand. At present there are 12 Schedules and 25 Parts.
There were 284 members in the committee that made this constitution, who signed the constitution on 24 November 1949. Of this, 15 were women members. The manuscript of the Indian Constitution has been prepared by writing on anti-microbial parchment that has survived for more than a thousand years. The manuscript consists of 234 pages, weighing 13 kg.
Along with the Indian Constitution, people also get confused about the ‘National Song’ and ‘National Anthem’ of India. This information is also necessary for the countrymen. National Anthem is the song of a country, which is compulsorily sung on all the occasions of national importance of that country. Whereas, it is not mandatory to sing the national anthem on every occasion.
The national anthem of our country is “Jana-Gana-Mana Adhinayak Jai Hai, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata”, while our national anthem is “Vande Mataram”. The Constituent Assembly adopted Jana-Gana-Mana as the national anthem on 24 January 1950. It was first sung in both languages (Bengali and Hindi) on 27 December 1911 at the Calcutta session of the Congress. There are five stanzas in the entire song.
‘National song’ and ‘National Anthem’ are among those heritage of the country, to which the identity of the country is attached. The feelings of ‘National Song’ and ‘National Anthem’ of each nation may be different, but they express the same feeling of patriotism. The national anthem was composed by eminent poet Rabindranath Tagore. It was originally written in the Bengali language, but was later translated into Hindi and English as well. Rabindranath Tagore composed the national anthem in the year 1911 itself. It was accepted by the Constituent Assembly on January 24, 1950. It takes a total of 52 seconds to sing the full version of the national anthem. Most people do not know what precautions should be taken while playing the national anthem. Actually, whenever the national anthem is played anywhere, it is the duty of every citizen of the country that if he is sitting somewhere, he should stand at that place and remain alert. Along with this, citizens are also expected to repeat the national anthem.
The national song of India is ‘Vande Mataram’. Its creator is Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay. He composed it in the year 1882 in a mixed language of Sanskrit and Bengali. It was a source of inspiration for the people in the fight for freedom. It also has the same status as the national anthem of India ‘Jana-Gana-Mana’. It was first sung in the year 1896 at the session of the Indian National Congress. The duration of the national anthem is also about 52 seconds. The controversy over ‘Vande Mataram’ has been going on since a long time. It could have been selected as the national anthem, but it did not get the status of the national anthem due to opposition from some communities.
Similarly our national flag also has importance. Our national flag is made of three colours. The national flag was approved by the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947. The ratio of length and width of the national flag is 2:3. It has three colors – dark saffron, light and dark green. The saffron color at the top of the flag is a symbol of courage, sacrifice and renunciation, the white color in the middle is the symbol of truth and peace and the green color is the symbol of faith and prosperity. A light blue circle is made in the middle of it, which has 24 spokes. This wheel has been taken from Ashoka’s Dharma Chakra located in Sarnath, which always inspires us to move forward.
Thus our national festival Republic Day is a proud day for every Indian.
