Retail inflation for agricultural laborers and rural laborers eased in April to 6.5 per cent and 6.52 per cent, respectively, as compared to March. In a statement released on Friday, the Labor Bureau of the Ministry of Labor and Employment said, the consumer price index for agricultural laborers in April 2023 stood at 6.50 percent while for rural laborers it stood at 6.52 percent.

In March it was 7.01 percent and 6.94 percent respectively. A year ago, in April 2022, the retail inflation for agricultural laborers and rural laborers was 6.44 percent and 6.67 percent respectively.
Similarly, food inflation has also come down to 6.67 per cent and 6.52 per cent respectively in April 2023 while it was 7.12 per cent and 7.07 per cent respectively in March. A year ago in April 2022, this figure was 5.29 percent and 5.35 percent respectively. The all-India consumer price index for agricultural laborers and rural laborers rose by five and six points to 1,180 and 1,192, respectively, in April. In March, their index was 1,175 and 1,186 points respectively. The Labor Bureau said prices of pulses, milk, dry chillies, garlic, ginger, spices, sugar, jaggery, vegetables and fruits saw an increase in April.
