RINL to supply 55,000 wheels to Railways in current financial year

RINL, a Visakhapatnam-based company, has set up a wheel plant at Lalganj in Uttar Pradesh. It has an annual production capacity of one lakh forged wheels. An investment of Rs 2,350 crore has been made on this plant.
New Delhi. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., a public sector steel company. (RINL) is targeting to produce 55,000 wheels in the current financial year (2023-24) to meet the demand of Indian Railways. The company’s chairman and managing director Atul Bhatt gave this information. RINL, a Visakhapatnam-based company, has set up a wheel plant at Lalganj in Uttar Pradesh. It has an annual production capacity of one lakh forged wheels. An investment of Rs 2,350 crore has been made on this plant. RINL has supplied 2,465 loco wheels and 2,639 LHB wheels to the Railways in the last financial year.
“The Preliminary Approval Certificate (PAC) has been issued for this plant. Very soon the production of this plant will be increased to meet the demand of 55,000 wheels of the Railways for the current financial year. At that time, it had sent a consignment of 51 loco wheels to the Railways from its Rae Bareli unit in Uttar Pradesh. Bhatt claimed that the targeted 50 per cent utilization of the plant would significantly reduce the dependence on imports and the Railways would be able to get better quality ‘Made in India’ wheels than imported ones.
He said that this is one of the modern plants of the world. “The forged wheels produced at this plant will be able to meet the requirement of high speed trains running at a speed of 200 km per hour,” he said adding new facilities will be added annually to meet the demand of domestic as well as international market. The capacity can be scaled up to two lakh wheels. RINL, under the Ministry of Steel, produces special steel.
