In such a situation, the Central Reserve Bank has extended the deadline for exchanging and depositing Rs 2000 notes from September 30, 2023 to October 7, 2023.
In such a situation, if you still have Rs 2000 notes, you can deposit them in the bank till October 7. According to the statement issued by RBI, from May to September 29, Rs 2000 notes worth about Rs 3.42 lakh crore have been returned to the banks. This accounts for 96 percent of the currency in circulation in this denomination.
What will happen after October 7th
It has been said by the Reserve Bank that after the end of the new deadline i.e. from October 8, 2023, the process of depositing Rs 2000 bank notes will be stopped. In such a situation, if you have a note of Rs 2000, it is possible that it may remain just a piece of paper. In such a situation, you can deposit Rs 2000 notes till 7th October. In such a situation, your notes will not become worthless till 7th October and after that they will be of no use.
