The rupee declined by six paise at 83.44 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday. Forex traders said that the strong US currency and crude oil prices crossing US $ 90 per barrel affected investor sentiments.

The rupee opened at 83.46 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. After this, it strengthened slightly and reached 83.44 per dollar, which shows a decline of six paise from the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 83.38 against the US dollar on Friday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s strength against six major currencies, was trading 0.08 per cent lower at 105.75.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were trading 0.31 per cent lower at US$90.17 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 8,027 crore on Friday.
