Rupee gains 4 paise at 81.87 per dollar in early trade

Mumbai The rupee on Tuesday appreciated by four paise to 81.87 against the American currency in early trade on sustained foreign fund inflows and a firm trend in local equities. Forex dealers said a stronger dollar and a rise in crude oil prices limited gains in the local currency. The domestic rupee opened at 81.90 against the dollar at the interbank forex market and later strengthened to 81.87 per dollar.
This is an increase of 4 paise over the previous closing price. On Monday, the rupee had closed at 81.91 per dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of currencies, was up 0.03 per cent at 103.01. Brent crude oil was trading at $75.12 per barrel, up 0.63 per cent.
