Rupee rises 4 paise to 82.33 against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai The rupee on Wednesday appreciated by four paise to 82.33 against the US dollar in early trade amid weakness in the US dollar and gains in the domestic equity market. At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened strong at 82.32 against the dollar, then recovered to 82.30 with some gains. After some time, the rupee slipped to 82.33, showing a gain of 4 paise over its previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 82.37 against the US dollar on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against a basket of six major currencies, fell 0.10 per cent to 103.49. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were up 1.21 per cent at $78.39 per barrel. Foreign portfolio investors were net sellers on Tuesday and sold shares worth Rs 3,086.96 crore on the day.
