Rupee rises 8 paise to 81.70 against US dollar

The rupee opened on a strong note at 81.76 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market and then recovered to 81.70, up eight paise from its previous close.
Mumbai The rupee appreciated by eight paise to 81.70 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday amid weakness in the American currency overseas. Forex traders said increased foreign fund inflows and crude oil falling below $75 a barrel also supported the local currency. The rupee opened on a strong note at 81.76 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market and then recovered to 81.70, up eight paise from its previous close.
The rupee had closed at 81.78 against the American currency on Thursday. The forex market was closed on Friday on account of Buddha Purnima. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against a basket of six major currencies, fell 0.07 per cent to 101.14. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures were up 0.07 per cent at $75.35 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 777.68 crore on Friday, according to stock market data.
